KWHedgehogs

My name is Kay from Knaresborough in North Yorkshire. I am a breeder of African Pygmy Hedgehogs also named Atelerix Albiventris or white bellied hedgehog. These stunning little creatures make wonderful pets who are easy to care for and will live for several years. I have been keeping them since 2006.

All of my herd are recorded with the United Kingdom African Pygmy Hedgehog Registry. I handle my hedgehogs from an early age so that they trust human contact. My herd are housed in their own cage which i clean daily, i use soft wood shavings as bedding and they each have their own wooden house for a safe and secure retreat. I keep them in a quiet location with good temperature and lighting that i constantly monitor. They are fed a daily supply of dried cat food along with fresh water. I also suppliment their diet with nutritious foods such as mealworms (dried and live), locust, boiled egg, cottage cheese, boiled chicken and mince, tinned cat food and five ready-made mixtures of dried ingredients.

I have developed a breeding program for my herd which i keep recorded and my only aim as a breeder of this spectacular species is to produce litters of hoglets from parents of good heath and temperament, for others to enjoy as much as i do.
